My name is Samantha Rain, and Pure Essential is more than just a clothing brand — it’s a mission.

A few years ago, someone very close to my heart was going through one of the darkest seasons of their life. They struggled silently with depression and anxiety — feeling lost, unseen, and burdened by the weight of life. No words seemed to help, and as someone who loved them deeply, I felt helpless.

In 2023, they traveled to the UK for work — a time I was both proud of and anxious about. Before their trip, I gifted them something small that turned out to be huge: a simple hoodie with words printed on the back that read, “Dear person behind me, the world is a better place with you in it.”

They told me later that while standing in a cold queue on a rainy day in London, someone behind them softly read those words out loud and said, “Thank you, I needed that.” And in that moment, they both cried — two strangers, connecting through words of hope. That moment changed something in them. They told me, “That hoodie didn’t just keep me warm. It reminded me that God sees me, even when I feel invisible.”

That small moment inspired me to bring this message home to South Africa. We live in a world where people are silently fighting battles we cannot see. Sometimes, a few kind words — even from the back of a stranger’s hoodie — can be the reminder someone needs to keep going, to know they matter, and that God’s love reaches them in unexpected ways.

So I started Pure Essential. This brand is dedicated to spreading kindness, hope, and faith through something as simple as a hoodie. Every time someone wears our Dear Person Behind Me hoodie, they carry a message that might just save someone’s day — or their life.
